Soegianto Nagaria
Remarks by BRI EMBA Student Representative, Class of 2025
Distinguished leaders, esteemed professors, and fellow classmates,
Good afternoon.
My name is Soegianto Nagaria, known in Chinese as Liang Zongyuan, from Summarecon Agung Group in Indonesia. It is a privilege to stand here as the student representative of the 7th cohort of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) EMBA Program. This moment is not merely a personal honor, but also a cross-border invitation — one that allows us to ride the momentum of the Belt and Road Initiative and pursue advanced study at Tsinghua PBC School of Finance.
First, on behalf of all new students, I would like to thank the School’s leadership and faculty for the dedication and effort invested in preparing this ceremony. Because of you, we now stand in an institution uniquely positioned to understand both China and the world, and to absorb the wisdom of finance at its source.
Tsinghua’s motto, “Self-Discipline and Social Commitment,” has long served as a guiding principle. PBC School of Finance, as the cradle of China’s financial reform, has left an indelible mark on the nation’s modern development. The BRI EMBA Program combines both traditions: it provides entrepreneurs from China and across Belt and Road countries with a platform for learning and exchange, deepens mutual understanding of Asian economies and national contexts, strengthens people-to-people connectivity, and fosters cross-border cooperation to seize new opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, such a platform is more vital than ever. It is rooted in China’s financial practice, yet equally attuned to the development trajectories of Belt and Road economies. It illuminates the cross-border financial logic behind the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway, while also anticipating the capital flows shaping digital trade.
Since its launch in 2017, the BRI EMBA has grown into a flourishing tree, with roots extending across 30 countries and industries. Its 250 alumni include leaders of Southeast Asian infrastructure, sovereign wealth fund investors from Indonesia and Malaysia, and pioneers of the digital economy in Central Asia. A close friend of mine, a member of the Class of 2019, shared how the program offered both authoritative insights into cross-border financial regulation and rich case studies on Belt and Road projects. He strongly encouraged me to join this community at Tsinghua PBCSF.
Summarecon Agung Group, where I serve, was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Jakarta as a publicly listed company. Our portfolio spans residential communities, shopping centers, office towers, and leisure facilities. Indonesia is undergoing rapid economic transformation, with vibrant financial markets and accelerating technological innovation. China is not only Indonesia’s largest trading partner but also one of its leading sources of foreign investment. Under the Belt and Road framework, the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway — inaugurated in 2023 — stands as a flagship of China–Indonesia cooperation, reflecting the deep interconnection between our two nations.
Dear classmates, in the years ahead we will share an intensive yet rewarding journey — acquiring knowledge, forging friendships, and pursuing growth together. As a Chinese proverb reminds us, “The noble path never leaves one isolated; the world is a single family.” Let us uphold Tsinghua PBCSF’s traditions of resilience, initiative, solidarity, and contribution. Let us inscribe our personal aspirations into the grand narrative of the Belt and Road, and weave the growth of our enterprises into the broader current of regional prosperity. Years from now, when we return to PBCSF and look back on this moment, may we be able to say with pride: we not only became better versions of ourselves, but also witnessed the shared prosperity of Asia and the world.
Finally, I wish our professors continued success in cultivating talent, and my fellow classmates every success in your studies.
Thank you.
