BRI EMBA Jakarta Module Inspires Student Engagement with Leading Industries and Expert Insights

Jakarta, May 14, 2023 - The BRI EMBA Program of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance recently concluded its first post-Covid overseas module in Jakarta, providing participants with a transformative educational experience from May 10 to May 14. The module showcased a dynamic itinerary that included company visits, enlightening forums, and engaging lectures, allowing participants to gain valuable insights into various sectors and topics shaping Indonesia's economic landscape.


The module kicked off with an exciting series of company visits to prominent institutions, including the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), leading retail company MAP, tech giant GoTo, logistics company J&T, and the central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI). These visits provided a firsthand understanding of the operations and strategies employed by key players in various industries and the country’s financial system, offering participants a comprehensive view of Indonesia's thriving business ecosystem.

A notable highlight of the module was the insightful forum led by Wong Chee-Yann, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Northstar, a private equity firm dedicated to investing in growth companies in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. His expertise and perspective on investment trends and opportunities in the region inspired lively inquiries from and discussions among participants, further enhancing their understanding of the dynamic investment landscape.


Mirza Adityaswara, Deputy Chairman of the OJK (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, or Financial Services Authority), enlightened BRI EMBA students on the resilience of Indonesia's financial sector. His presentation shed light on the measures implemented to ensure stability and growth in the face of multiple challenges. Participants gained valuable insights into the regulatory landscape and the strategies employed to maintain a robust financial system.

Dr. Qinghong Yang's lecture during the BRI EMBA’s Jakarta module was a captivating exploration of the Silicon Valley Bank incident and R&D efficiency. His comprehensive analysis and thought-provoking insights left a lasting impact on students, enhancing their understanding of these critical topics. Dr. Yang also organized a stimulating forum on Indonesia and ASEAN opportunities, bringing together a panel of esteemed speakers who provided diverse perspectives on the region's potential for growth and collaboration.

Another highlight of the module was Muhamad Chatib Basri's enlightening presentation on implementing reforms in a "Second Best World," using Indonesia as a case study. As a former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board, Basri shared his invaluable experiences and insights into the challenges and strategies involved in driving reforms, particularly in developing economies.

The module also featured two distinguished experts who delivered thought-provoking presentations. Andjarsari Paramaditha (Detta), Senior Manager at Mandiri Institute, explored sustainable banking and finance opportunities, emphasizing the importance of embracing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in the industry. Meutia Chaerani (Rani), a Climate Change Specialist from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), shed light on the energy transition mechanism in Indonesia, highlighting the need to accelerate the shift to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.


Under the guidance of Teguh Dartanto, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Indonesia, participants were treated to a compelling lecture on maintaining the economic recovery momentum in Indonesia. Dartanto's expertise and engaging delivery captivated the audience, providing them with valuable insights into the strategies and measures employed to ensure sustainable growth in the country.

Since its inception in May 2017, the BRI EMBA Program has attracted more than 200  high-level enterprise decision-makers from 24 countries and regions, including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan. A number of students from Southeast Asian Countries hold Tan Sri, Dato' Sri, Dato’, Tengku and other honorary titles. Nearly 40% of the students graduated from world-renowned universities such as MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.
