The First Class of the Media Program for B&R Countries held at Tsinghua PBCSF

BEIJING, September, 10th, 2017-Tsinghua PBCSF successfully held the Opening Ceremony to welcome its first class of the Media Program for the B&R countries. Media chief editors and senior journalists from over fourteen countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand and others along the Silk Road participated in the training program, which stands out as another notable landmark in the process of the Center’s internationalization. This non-profit project was co-hosted by Tsinghua University and People’s Daily, and sponsored by Tencent, a leading provider of Internet value added services in China.

 

Mr. Zhao Cen, Associate Dean, PBC School of Finance, Tsinghua University; Mr. Zhang Yong, Deputy Director General, External Relations Department, People’s Daily; Mr. Derek YUE, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Marketing and PR Department, Tencent; and participant representative Mr. Muhammad Naeem Chaudhry joined the Ceremony and delivered keynote speech, respectively. Mr. Cai Kan, Deputy Director of the Center for Finance EMBA & Executive Education, Tsinghua University hosted.

 

Mr. Zhao Cen firstly congratulated all the members of the class. He said, joint efforts on the Belt and Road Initiative is perfectly in line with the general trend of multi-polarization, economic globalization, cultural diversification, and IT-based social development. The media is playing a growing role and media agencies of countries along the Belt and Road will surely be essential in the process of globalization.

 

He continued, ‘International communication is a two-way process and we may encounter more communication difficulties and obstacles in a rising economy. I hope through a thorough study of China, all students would be able to tell a better story of China and become the cohesive ties of mutual trust. As the most reputable university in China, Tsinghua University is duty-bound.’

 

Mr. Zhang Yong added, as the leading news agency in China, People’s Daily is dedicated to deliver good stories and convey the voices of China, as well as to develop and form partnerships with global media. The 2017 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt & Road by People’s Daily is designed to help international media better understand the Belt and Road Initiative with its contents, and to show Chinese people’s sincerity towards strengthening of international cooperation. Mr. Zhang reckoned, China is benefit from its opening-up. He hopes a closer cooperation with the Belt and Road counties will also benefit the world.

 

Mr. Derek Yue from Tencent also expressed his excitement in joining hands in establishing this media program. He said, the Belt and Road Initiative will certainly promote the coordination of economic policies between countries and thus achieve win-win. Media agencies along the Belt and Road countries are playing a growing role and surely be essential in the development process. Tencent, as a globalized enterprise of China, expects to seek common grounds with key media agencies of the Belt and Road countries and to create win-win.

 

Later on, the students’ representative Mr. Muhammad Naeem Chaudhry, Director News, Associated Press of Pakistan Cooperation, addressed that the Belt and Road Initiative will serve as a new form of globalization, creating opportunities for the world community. He said, the Belt and Road Initiative provides platforms for interconnection, not only between countries and regions, but also worldwide. These platforms will in turn bring more interests for the world economy. As the neighbor and friend of China, Pakistan supports vigorously this Initiative, which had seized golden opportunities for Pakistan.

 

The 5-day Media Program for Belt and Road Countries opened mainly to executives of mainstream media agencies in countries along the Belt and Road who come to China to attend the Media Cooperation Forum and senior media professionals engaged in news reports about the Belt and Road Initiative. The program offers systematic interpretation to the Belt and Road Initiative through both in-class teaching and various other forms of activities and promotes communication between different nations and cultures along the B&R routes, with a view to exerting lasting, positive impact on the cooperation in various sectors among countries along the Belt and Road.
